Watch: Shepherds and angels sing in a new clip from Journey to Bethlehem
This is the first time the studio has released only part of one of the film's musical sequences.
The studio behind Journey to Bethlehem isn’t quite finished releasing new clips from the film, though they might be pumping the brakes a bit.
Last night they released a clip with the climactic medley from the night of Jesus’ birth… but they only released the first half of the medley, in which a shepherd girl sings ‘Silent Night’ and the angels sing ‘O Holy Night’. The clip cuts off just before Mary and the Magi sing the parts that call back to earlier songs in the film.
You can watch the clip here:
And if you want to hear the complete track, you can listen to it here:
Interestingly, the YouTube titles for both videos credit the song to Lecrae (who plays Gabriel) and Fiona Palomo (who plays Mary), but the clip from the film cuts off before Palomo gets to sing her part. You can see a 12-second snippet of Palomo’s contribution at the 2:54 mark in this featurette from a few months ago, though:
So, anyway. Between these clips and the others that have been released over the past two months, we now have about 29 minutes of footage from the 98-minute film. A quick recap, with all the clips listed in movie-chronological order:
‘Come Look at the Star’ — 0:20
‘Extended Preview’ (includes ‘Mary’s Getting Married’) — 9:23
‘Good to Be King’ — 3:14
‘Can We Make This Work’ — 3:02
‘Mother to a Savior and King’ — 3:31
‘The Ultimate Deception’ — 2:48
‘We Become We’ — 2:12
‘In My Blood’ — 2:54
the first half of ‘The Nativity Song’ — 2:03
If you add the music video for the end-credits song ‘Brand New Life’, there is about 33 minutes of movie accounted for in all these clips—more than a third of the film.
Aside from the second end-credits song (a For King & Country cover of ‘Go Tell it on the Mountain’), there are still two-and-a-half songs that have not been released as movie clips: the opening-credits medley, the Magi’s song ‘Three Wise Guys’, and (of course) the second half of ‘The Nativity Song’.
I’ll have more to say about these clips later. Stay tuned.
December 18 update: I just learned that you can watch the complete 4.5-minute clip of the song on the movie’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
