Watch: Mary and Joseph angst over their future in a duet from Journey to Bethlehem
Mary and Joseph wonder if their arranged marriage could be "part of God's plan".
Ready to hear what “a High School Musical take on the Bible” sounds like?
The makers of the Christmas musical Journey to Bethlehem have released the first song from the soundtrack. It’s called ‘Can We Make This Work’, and it features Mary singing about “dreams” that “fell apart”, Joseph wondering if their arranged marriage can work out (“I’m just the stranger they say is the man for you / Maybe with time, something will change / Making the best of this might be the only way”), and both of them hoping that what they’re dealing with is “part of God’s plan”.
And this is all before Mary learns that she’s pregnant with God’s son.
You can listen to the track via Spotify here:
You can also watch the scene with the song here:
The song was written by the film’s co-writer/director Adam Anders with Nikki Anders and Peer Åström. It is performed by Fiona Palomo and Milo Manheim.
The full soundtrack album comes out November 3.
The film comes to theatres November 10, i.e. four weeks from now.
October 20 update: I just noticed that there is a lyric video for the song, too:
