Watch: It's Joseph vs Joseph in a new featurette for Journey to Bethlehem
The actor who plays him says it's "a blessing to be able to play somebody that once existed."
Today’s the day. Journey to Bethlehem opens in theatres tonight, and the studio behind it has released one last featurette—at least, I think it’s the last one, we’ll see if any new ones come out today—to help promote the Nativity-themed musical.
One of the very first featurettes, back in September, was all about Mary and Joseph. A featurette released two days ago brought things full circle by focusing on Mary and one of her solo performances. And now we’ve got a featurette that focuses on Joseph and one of his solo performances… except it’s kind of a duet… with himself.
The song is called ‘The Ultimate Deception’, and in the featurette below, you can see that there are two Josephs singing it—one dressed in white, who wants to believe Mary’s claim that she is pregnant with the Son of God, and one dressed in black, who thinks Mary cheated on him. The song basically reflects the conflicted emotions that Joseph may have felt as he considered divorcing her, as per Matthew 1:19.
You can watch the featurette here:
If you want to hear the whole song, it is available on all the usual music platforms, and you can also hear it via the YouTube clip below:
Incidentally, I get a kick out of the fact that Milo Manheim, the actor who plays Joseph in this film, is in another holiday-themed movie of sorts produced by Sony that is coming out this month—and it’s a slasher film called Thanksgiving.
Anyway. The Journey to Bethlehem soundtrack album came out last week, and the film itself, as noted above, comes out tonight. I’ll have more to say about it later.
