The Chosen announces Season 5 theatrical dates, exclusive Prime Video deal
The series also has some new key art based on photographs by Annie Leibovitz.
The Chosen creator Dallas Jenkins hosted a livestream yesterday to give fans of the series an update on the release plans for Season 5.
The season, which depicts the last few days before Jesus’s arrest, will start coming to theatres next month and will then—via a brand new deal—stream exclusively on Prime Video for three months before going to The Chosen’s proprietary app.
Jenkins also provided a sneak peek of the animated series The Chosen Adventures.
You can watch the livestream further down, but here are some of the key points:
The Season 5 “payoff trailer” will start streaming this Thursday, February 20.
Season 5 will be released theatrically in North America in three parts, at least one of which—in a first for the series—will play in IMAX theatres.
Part One (Episodes 1-2) will start playing March 27.
Part Two (Episodes 3-5) will start playing April 4.
Part Three (Episodes 6-8) will start playing April 11.
Fans will also be able to binge-watch the entire season in theatres over the Palm Sunday and Easter weekends (Easter weekend only in Canada).
Tickets are already available via TheChosenLastSupper.com.
Part One will be released theatrically in 40 other countries starting April 10.
Distributors in those countries said the audiences there aren’t big enough to justify putting all three parts in theatres. (I don’t know the stats for those countries, but here in North America, the audience for Season 4 got smaller with each theatrical installment; click here for more details about that.)
Season 5 will start streaming on Prime Video probably in June, and it will be exclusive to Prime for 90 days.
Jenkins said the season would be “exclusively on Prime Video here in the States,” and he said there will be more information later about “the international streaming windows”. I don’t know where that leaves Canada.
Jenkins offered various business reasons for the exclusive deal with Prime Video, and he emphasized that Amazon has no influence on the content of the show. He noted that The Chosen’s future theatrical releases might be able to take advantage of Amazon’s theatrical-distribution connections.
There are no specific release plans yet for The Chosen Adventures.
The Chosen’s cast and crew will start filming Season 6 in about two months.
Some interesting coincidences/connections to other upcoming Bible movies/series:
Prime Video also happens to be the streaming service that is producing House of David, an Old Testament series created by Jenkins’ colleague Jon Erwin. (One of Erwin’s companies produced The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, which Jenkins directed, and Jenkins is a special advisor to Erwin’s other production company, which is making House of David.) Part Two of The Chosen Season 5 is coming to theatres one day after the House of David season finale starts streaming.
Part Three of The Chosen Season 5 is coming to theatres the same day as The King of Kings, an animated film (based on Charles Dickens’ The Life of Our Lord) that is being released by Angel Studios, The Chosen’s original distributor.

On a related note: A few days before the livestream, Jenkins and some of the cast and crew went to Times Square to unveil some new key art for Season 5 based on photographs taken by Annie Leibovitz, including the three new posters below (note: while the posters seem to say that all three parts are coming out in “March 2025”, Parts Two and Three are actually coming out in April):
And, that about covers it for now. More later, perhaps.
