Reading this, i have to wonder how you would’ve covered the pending release of The Life Of Brian if you had been old enough at the time to cover it the way you do now? That’s not at all a criticism, just wondering... :)
Assuming I would have been a Monty Python fan already back then, I suspect I would have hoped for a good film, the same way I hoped Darren Aronofsky's Noah would be good.
Also, when The Last Temptation of Christ came out in 1988 -- nine years after Life of Brian -- I was 17 years old, and I made a point of seeing the film before forming an opinion on it, whereas a lot of the Christians around me were condemning it sight-unseen (including one of my pastors, who actually alluded to the fact that I had seen the film in one of his sermons!).
I'm not a particular fan of The Book of Clarence's director (I've only seen one of his previous films, which I thought was okay), and I don't know how controversial The Book of Clarence will be, but I'm always hoping for the best when someone tackles a Bible story from an unusual angle. I always hope that the filmmakers will illuminate *some* aspect of the story that hadn't really occurred to me before.
