Of Kings and Prophets – scripture index
A detailed list of all the passages that the series dramatizes, quotes, and alludes to.
Episode recaps: one | two | three | four | five | six | seven | eight | nine
Dramatizing the life of David—particularly the early part, before he was king—isn’t as complicated as, say, dramatizing the life of Jesus. Instead of juggling four gospels and a handful of other texts, all you have to do, pretty much, is follow the second half of the first book of Samuel. It isn’t until King Saul dies that you have to look beyond the books of Samuel and take other books, like Chronicles, into account.
That being said, writers do love to make changes to their source material, and it’s sometimes necessary to do that anyway to create satisfying drama. So, in my episode-by-episode analysis of Of Kings and Prophets, I made note of which episodes were based on which scriptures—and along the way, I also cited many other scriptures that tied into aspects of the biblical story that the series included and omitted.
And so, just as I created a scripture index for The Chosen, I am now creating a scripture index for Of Kings and Prophets. It has three main sections: the passages that are directly adapted in the series, the passages that are quoted or alluded to in the series, and the passages that I referenced in my commentary.
All of the episodes are cited numerically, not by title.

Finally, here is a list of all the passages I alluded to in my recaps, sometimes because the series harks back to them, sometimes because the series stands in contrast to some of them, and sometimes because they fit whatever tangent the series had me going on:
Bold means the passage is dramatized within the episode.
Italics means the passage is specifically quoted or alluded to within the episode.
Every other passage is simply mentioned in my recaps.
