Box office: Jesus Revolution has a decent hold in its third week
The film is now just a day or two away from grossing $40 million in North America.
Just a quick box-office update before I head off to watch the Oscars.
Jesus Revolution is currently on track to gross $5.18 million in its third weekend at the North American box office.
That’s a drop of 39.2% since last week, which is a fairly average drop for a “faith-based” film in its third week. If estimates hold, it will be the second-lowest drop, percentage-wise, of any film that was in last week’s top ten. (Avatar: The Way of Water, now in its thirteenth week, had the lowest drop: 26%. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, now in its twelfth week, dropped an estimated 39.9%. All the other films in last week’s top ten dropped at least 44% this week.)
Rank-wise, the film is virtually tied for the #6 spot with new release Champions. If it holds that spot when the final numbers come in tomorrow, it will have dropped just one notch from #5 last week.
Among “faith-based” films, Jesus Revolution—which had the 6th-biggest opening-weekend gross two weeks ago, and the 9th-biggest second-weekend gross last week—now has the 10th-biggest third-weekend gross.
The film has also now earned $39.5 million in total since opening, which is enough to make it the 12th-highest-grossing “faith-based” film to date.
It also now ranks 9th, in North America, among Kelsey Grammer movies:
It was already the top-grossing movie Jonathan Roumie has ever been in …
… and it is highly unlikely to move any higher on Joel Courtney’s chart:
And that, I think, about covers it. More later, perhaps.

March 14 update: The final numbers are in, and Jesus Revolution came in slightly below estimates, with $5.13 million, which landed it behind Champions in 7th place; it also means Jesus Revolution had the third-lowest percentage drop this week, behind Avatar and Puss in Boots… but it still had the lowest drop of any film released this year!:
