Newsbites: Clarence! Wonders! Revolution! Chosen!
New trailers for two Jonathan Roumie-starring projects, and new news about two possibly Bible-adjacent movies.
The Book of Clarence gets a production company and a new co-star
Five months ago, The Harder They Fall director Jeymes Samuel said he was reuniting with LaKeith Stanfield for The Book of Clarence, a movie set in AD 29 that, from the sound of it, will take place on the fringes of the Jesus story (similar perhaps to Monty Python’s Life of Brian, though it won’t necessarily be a comedy). Last Wednesday, Deadline reported that Omar Sy has joined the cast, and Legendary Pictures—one of the companies behind the Dark Knight trilogy, Godzilla vs Kong, etc.—has signed on to produce the film. No specific details about the movie have been revealed yet, beyond the setting and the fact that Stanfield is playing someone named Clarence.
Amazon producing a series adaptation of Seven Wonders
Variety reports that Amazon is producing an adaptation of Seven Wonders, the Ben Mezrich novel about a “brilliant botanist-adventurer” who goes on “a breathless race to solve an ancient mystery tied to the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World.” I’m not familiar with the book but I gather it has been compared to the likes of Indiana Jones and The Da Vinci Code, and it reportedly involves “a road map to the Garden of Eden”, among other things. Make of that what you will. The series currently has Justin Lin (five Fast & Furious films) attached to direct and Simu Liu (Shang-Chi) set to star.
Hippies-for-Christ flick Jesus Revolution gets a trailer
Lionsgate has released a trailer for Jesus Revolution, the movie about the Jesus People movement that stars Kelsey Grammer as Pastor Chuck Smith, Jonathan Roumie as hippie preacher Lonnie Frisbee, and Joel Courtney as a teenaged Greg Laurie. You can watch the trailer below; the film itself comes out February 24. Incidentally, this is the second video the studio has released to promote the film, following a four-minute featurette that came out two weeks ago. You can also click here for some thoughts I’ve had about the film and how it seems to be portraying Frisbee, in particular.
The Chosen gets a second Season 3 trailer one week after the first one
Speaking of Jonathan Roumie-starring projects, Dallas Jenkins is going to host another livestream with another trailer for Season 3 of The Chosen next week, just eight days after the first trailer came out. You’ll be able to watch that livestream here:
