Box office: Captain America plummets while foreign genre films hold well
Also: The Monkey was the week's biggest new film, while The Unbreakable Boy had one of the lowest opening weekends to date for the "faith-based" studio that made it.
A few of this week’s highlights:
Captain America: Brave New World had one of the steepest second-weekend drops of any Marvel Cinematic Universe movie.
The Monkey, a Stephen King adaptation from Longlegs director Oz Perkins, was the week’s biggest new film.
Paddington in Peru had the smallest second weekend of any Paddington film.
Ne Zha 2, a Chinese animated fantasy, stayed in the North American top five and became the top-grossing animated film of all time worldwide.
Chhaava, an Indian action epic, had the best hold of any film in the top ten.1
The Unbreakable Boy, a “faith-based” film that was originally going to come out in 2022, had the smallest opening of any film produced by Kingdom Story, the studio behind Jesus Revolution and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.
