Watch: The first trailer for The Promised Land Season 1
Trust falls, water shortages, and accusations of nepotism in our first look at the first season of the Office-style comedy series about Moses leading the Israelites.
At long last, we have a trailer for the first season of The Promised Land, the Office-style mockumentary comedy series about Moses leading the Israelites. We also have a release date: the season will premiere October 1, on YouTube.
You can watch the trailer here:
A few quick notes:
The trailer begins with Moses reading from a small stone tablet: “When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you…” Variations on this phrase appear throughout the four books that tell the story of Moses, but the verses that come closest to what Moses says here are probably Deuteronomy 17:14 and 18:9.
The Israelites experience a water shortage, and Moses gets water by striking a rock with his staff (Exodus 17:1-7). The striking of the rock was already depicted in the pilot episode as a flashback.
Chisisi says he has been with the Hebrews for 49 days. Chisisi joined the Hebrews after the crossing of the Red Sea, and their journey to Mount Sinai—which started before the crossing—took 45 days (Numbers 33:3, Exodus 19:1), so they should all be at the mountain by the time he says this.
Aaron is consecrated high priest in the Tabernacle. The Tabernacle was completed almost a year after the Israelites left Egypt (Exodus 40), and Aaron and his sons spent the next seven days being ordained as priests (Exodus 29:35; Leviticus 8:33, 9:1).1
The show’s pilot episode came out on YouTube over a year ago, and it’s interesting to see that the rest of the season will be coming out on YouTube too.

I wrote a detailed scene-by-scene analysis of the episode last year and interviewed series creator Mitch Hudson here.

Aaron and his sons completed their ordination on the eighth day of the first month of the second year (Leviticus 9:1, cf Exodus 40:17), which means they were ordained just six days before the lambs needed to be slaughtered for the second Passover (Numbers 9:1-5).
