Watch: Saul and Jonathan speak to Samuel in two new clips from House of David
Season 2 Episode 4 starts streaming this Sunday.
Another episode of House of David is coming to Wonder Project on Prime Video this Sunday, and we have two new clips from that episode to see.
First, via ChurchLeaders.com, King Saul (Ali Suliman) and his general Abner (Oded Fehr) go to the Tabernacle to speak to the prophet Samuel (Stephen Lang):
As it happens, the Bible itself never puts Samuel at the Tabernacle—not as an adult, at least. As I said in my analysis of 2016’s Of Kings and Prophets, which also had Saul confronting Samuel at the Tabernacle:
The biblical Samuel was certainly raised by priests, back when the Tabernacle was stationed in Shiloh (I Samuel 1:24-28, etc.), but as an adult, he lived in his parents’ hometown Ramah (I Samuel 7:16-17; cf. I Samuel 1:19), and that was where David went to find him after fleeing Saul (I Samuel 19:18). There are no biblical stories in which Samuel himself went to [the Tabernacle in] Nob, and no biblical stories in which he interacted with the priests as an adult.
Also, as I noted when the trailer for this season came out, there is no evidence in the Bible that Saul and Samuel ever spoke to each other again after God rejected Saul as king—not while Samuel was still alive, at any rate:
The Bible states explicitly that Samuel never went to see Saul again after God rejected Saul (I Samuel 15:35), which happened at the very beginning of this series; and the one time we know of that Saul tried to see Samuel again, Saul and his men were overwhelmed by the Spirit of God, and Saul in particular took off his clothes and spent a whole day lying naked on the ground (I Samuel 19:18-24). So Saul and his men were all basically incapacitated, even humiliated, by a supernatural force that protected Samuel. There is no record anywhere of Saul and Samuel having an actual conversation again before Samuel died—much less one in which Samuel was restrained by Saul’s soldiers [as happened in Episode 1 of this season] . . .
Second, via ComicBookMovie.com, we have a clip of Jonathan (Ethan Kai) speaking to Samuel about his growing friendship with David—and how Jonathan worries that the friendship might destroy him and his family:
If any more videos from Episode 4 pop up, I will add them here.
