Trailer round-up: Mary! Light of the World!
Plus, a quick rundown of all the biblical movies and streaming shows that have already started production and are due to come out in the next year or so.
Two new trailers came across the interwebs today.
First, there is this trailer for Mary, which comes to Netflix December 6 (just three and a half weeks from now):
Among other things, this trailer reveals or alludes to:
Mary’s miraculous birth (as per the Infancy Gospel of James).
Mary’s upbringing in the Temple (also as per the Infancy Gospel of James).
Herod’s premonitions of the crucifixion of Jesus.
The betrothal/wedding of Mary and Joseph.
Mary’s labour pains.
Someone (apparently Mary) riding a horse through some flames.
And second, there is this teaser for Light of the World, an animated Jesus film that is coming to theatres September 5, 2025:
Among other things, this trailer reveals or alludes to:
A Roman soldier seizing John and apparently taking his money.
The wedding in Cana.
Jesus wiping some tears from his eyes.
Jesus being arrested by the Temple guards.
A dove, seemingly made of white flame, emerging from the parting clouds.
Jesus’ bare feet walking on the water.
I don’t believe Light of the World’s release date has been announced before—as recently as two weeks ago, all the press materials I saw said it was coming out “Summer 2025”—so with this information in hand, I figured now would be as good a time as any to make a list of all the Bible-themed movies and TV shows that have already started (or finished!) production and are due to come out in the next year or so.
