The Faithful episode 3 – quick note on the cast
I somehow missed the fact that Fox Entertainment announced the actors playing Leah, Rachel, their father Laban, and more a couple months ago.
Looking at the list of upcoming Bible films today, I found myself thinking, “Hey, when are we going to learn who the main actors in Episode 3 of The Faithful are?”
The Faithful, you may recall, is the upcoming three-part Fox series that will look at the stories of Genesis from the female characters’ point of view. In July, we learned that Minnie Driver and Natacha Karam are playing Sarah and Hagar in Episode 1, and in August, we learned that Alexa Davalos is playing Rebekah in Episode 2. But I hadn’t heard anything yet about Episode 3, which focuses on Leah and Rachel.
A quick Google revealed that the actors were… announced in October. Oops. How did I miss that? I blame the fact there was a lot of stuff happening in the Bible-movie realm that month, from the premieres of The Promised Land and House of David Season 2 to the theatrical release of The Carpenter’s Son, all of which kept me very, very busy. (I still haven’t gotten around to watching The Chosen Adventures, which also came out that month.)
Anyhoo, here’s the cast list for Episode 3 of The Faithful:
Millie Brady (The Last Kingdom, Surface) as Leah
Fun fact: Brady played Joan Collins in 2015’s Legend, and the real-life Collins played Queen Esther in 1960’s Esther and the King and Mrs. Potiphar in 1999’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
Blu Hunt (The New Mutants, Sherlock & Daughter) as Rachel
James Purefoy (Rome, The Following) as their father Laban
Fun fact: While Rome is not a Bible series of any sort—it takes place roughly 25-45 years before the birth of Jesus—co-creator Bruno Heller did say in 2008 that if the show had lasted more than two seasons, the fifth season would have been about “the rise of the messiah in Palestine.”
Taylor Napier (The Wheel of Time, Hanna) as their brother Acar
Will Stevens (Alexander: The Making of a God) as their brother Birham
Tom Payne (The Walking Dead, The Prodigal Son) as their cousin/husband Jacob
Payne was already cast as Jacob in Episode 2
I assume Acar and Birham were invented for the series—a brief search didn’t turn up any sources for those names, biblical or otherwise—but I’ll update this post if they weren’t.
Fun fact: two-time Oscar winner Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds, Django Unchained) played a fictitious brother of Leah and Rachel’s named Morash in 1994’s The Bible Collection: Jacob (which starred Matthew Modine as Jacob).

So, now I’m up to date.
