The Chosen Season 6 – notes on three scenes

Among other things, the disciples seem more active than usual in the events that follow Jesus' arrest.

Jesus (Jonathan Roumie, far left) is questioned by the priests in The Chosen.

The Chosen creator Dallas Jenkins gave fans of the show a sneak peek at two scenes from Season 6 this week. Watching them, I was reminded that I never got around to commenting on the first scene from Season 6 that he showed us three months ago. So, I’m going to offer a few quick remarks about all three of them here.

First, a few general points about the season as a whole, based on Jenkins’ comments:

  • Episode 2 will feature Peter and John outside the high priest’s courtyard before the trial of Jesus begins.

  • In Episode 4 (or maybe 5), Nicodemus will summon Big James to the Sanhedrin, hoping that Big James’ testimony will help get Jesus off the hook.

  • Episode 5 will be the one in which Pilate asks the crowd to choose between Jesus and Barabbas. The crowd will include people who are for Jesus—including “some of the disciples, who have shown up and are trying to hide but [are] also trying to be supportive,” says Jenkins—as well as people who are against Jesus.

  • Episode 6 will be the one with the scourging of Jesus.

A recurring theme with these clips is how busy the disciples are, trying to prevent the prosecution and execution of Jesus. Typically, the male disciples are depicted fleeing the authorities and abandoning Jesus after his arrest (with the exception of the one disciple, traditionally believed to be John, who witnessed the Crucifixion in John 19:26-27). But it sounds like The Chosen is going to make at least some of the disciples a little bolder than that, to help pad out the narrative.

The first six episodes of The Chosen Season 6 will start streaming on Prime Video in the second half of 2026. The season will then conclude with a feature-length theatrical movie on March 12, 2027. (Season 7 is set to premiere in 2028.)

And now, my notes on the three sneak peeks.
