Amazon Prime Video has just released the first official photos for House of David, the biblical series that is currently being produced by Jon Erwin, the co-director of such “faith-based” hits as Jesus Revolution and I Can Only Imagine.
The streaming platform also announced that the series will be coming out just two and a half months from now, on February 27, 2025.
The photos don’t reveal much that we didn’t already know, so there isn’t a whole lot to comment on here—but I do want to note a couple things.
First, three months ago the Wall Street Journal reported that Goliath would be 14’ tall in this series, and that sounded very strange to me, as the biblical Goliath was either 6’9” or 9’9” depending on which manuscript you follow. (The actor who plays him, Martyn Ford, is 6’8”—or only one inch shorter than Goliath is in the earliest available manuscripts—so there’s arguably no need to make him look taller at all.)
But based on the photo below, it looks like this series really might be exaggerating Goliath’s height and making him much, much taller than he is in the Bible. It’s hard to say, because there are no men standing right next to him in the photo for comparison’s sake, but just look at the size of that shield his men are carrying. (The biblical Goliath had one shield-bearer. The Goliath of this series apparently needs two.)
Also, I’m mildly intrigued by the fact that the studio released multiple images of King Saul and his family today, including the group shot below… but Saul’s son Eshbaal—who is played by Sam Otto in the series—is nowhere to be seen. Hmmm.
Finally, today’s press release didn’t reveal any new members of the cast, but it did reveal that Alexander Uloom—who was previously said to be playing “an undisclosed but key role”—is playing the Philistine king Achish, who can be seen here:
The rest of the images are pretty self-explanatory. Here they are:
