Box office: Superman has one of the best second-weekend holds of the year
Meanwhile, attempts to revive the I Know What You Did Last Summer and Smurfs franchises fell flat.

Superman had one of the best second-weekend holds of any major film this year, and the best of any live-action Superman movie since the 1980s.
I Know What You Did Last Summer and Smurfs had the lowest openings of any film in their respective major-studio franchises.
F1 passed Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby to become the top-grossing live-action race-car film in North America. (It was already the top such film overseas.)
Eddington had the lowest opening of any Ari Aster film that opened in wide release.
Lilo & Stitch became the year’s first Hollywood movie to gross a billion dollars worldwide.
