Box office: Smile franchise holds steady, Wild Robot hits new milestone
Also: Terrifier 3 sets a new record, Joker 2 hits a new low, and Deadpool & Wolverine inches past Barbie on the all-time North American chart.
A few of this week’s highlights:
Smile 2 had the 3rd-best opening of any horror film this year, as well as the best opening of any supernatural or non-science-fiction horror film.
The Wild Robot, still one of the Top 2 films in its fourth week, became the third “original” animated film this decade to gross at least $100 million.
Terrifier 3 became the top-grossing unrated film of all time.
Joker: Folie à Deux had the worst third weekend (only third? this film is that new? it feels like very old news already…) of any Batman or Batman-adjacent (Joker, Harley Quinn, Catwoman, etc.) film that wasn’t a TV-series spin-off.
Deadpool & Wolverine, which stars an Aussie and a Canadian named Ryan, inched past Barbie, which starred another Aussie and another Canadian named Ryan, to become the 12th-highest-grossing film of all time in North America.
