Box office: One of Them Days challenges Mufasa for the top spot while the latest Wolf Man reboot flops

Whichever film wins, it will be the lowest-grossing MLK weekend champ since 1997 (not counting 2021, when many theatres were closed because of Covid).

A few of this week’s highlights:

  • The brand new female buddy comedy One of Them Days appears to have won the regular three-day weekend, while Christmas-season holdover Mufasa: The Lion King is poised to win the four-day American long weekend.

    • Whichever film wins, this week’s top movie will be the lowest-grossing MLK weekend champ since 1997 (not counting the Covid-affected 2021).

  • Wolf Man—which had been expected to win the weekend—landed in third place with one of the weakest debuts of any “Universal monsters” reboot.

  • Several movies passed major milestones: Mufasa: The Lion King passed $200mil in North America—it has also reached almost $600mil worldwide—while Sonic the Hedgehog 3 passed $400mil worldwide, Wicked passed $700mil worldwide, and Moana 2 passed one billion dollars worldwide.

  • Homestead is now the second Angel Studios film to gross $20 million or more in North America, following 2023’s mega-hit Sound of Freedom.
