Box office: Joker 2 has the worst debut of any major Batman or Joker movie
Also: White Bird, a sort of sequel to 2017's Wonder, had the worst opening weekend of any non-documentary released under the "faith-based" Kingdom Story brand.
Not exactly a good week for sequels and spin-offs at the box office this weekend:
Joker: Folie à Deux—the sequel to 2019’s Joker, itself a spin-off of the Batman franchise—grossed only $37.8 million in its first weekend, which was enough to top the chart but was also the worst opening of any live-action Batman or Joker film since the campy TV spin-off Batman: The Movie came out in the 1960s.
White Bird—a World War II story told in flashback to a minor character from 2017’s Wonder, a present-day movie that had nothing to do with the war—was the latest in a string of flops for Lionsgate Studios, and had one of the worst openings of any film released under the “faith-based” Kingdom Story brand.
Aside from that, the rest of this week’s top ten consisted mostly of holdovers from last week, though there was a new movie produced by a popular YouTube channel…
