Box office: It Ends with Us nearly topples Deadpool & Wolverine
If the estimates hold, this will be the first time ever that two films grossed over $50 million on the same weekend in August. And they both feature Blake Lively!
No time for a big intro, but a few key highlights from this weekend:
Deadpool & Wolverine became the second R-rated film to gross a billion dollars worldwide (following 2019’s Joker, another comic-book movie).
It Ends with Us scored the biggest opening, by far, of any Blake Lively film that didn’t star her husband Ryan Reynolds.
If the estimates hold, this will be the first time ever that two films grossed at least $50 million on the same weekend in August. And they both feature Blake Lively! (She’s the star of It Ends with Us, and she also provides the voice of ‘Ladypool’, a female version of her husband’s character, in Deadpool & Wolverine.)
Borderlands, the first big-budget film directed by Eli Roth (with reshoots by Tim Miller, director of the original Deadpool), flopped big-time.
Inside Out 2 passed last year’s Barbie to become the top-grossing film in North America since 2022’s Avatar: The Way of Water.
