Box office: Indie horror hit succeeds where recent big-studio efforts failed
Longlegs is already one of the biggest horror films of the year. Also: Despicable Me 4 had one of the best second-weekend holds of any Gru/Minions film.
No time for a big intro, but here are a few highlights from this week’s top ten:
Despicable Me 4 topped the chart again with one of the best second-week holds of any film featuring Gru or the Minions.
Longlegs, a serial-killer movie from an indie distributor, made more money in one weekend than some big-studio horror movies have made in their entire theatrical runs so far this year. It is also already the top-grossing live-action non-cameo Nicolas Cage film since 2011’s Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.
Fly Me to the Moon had the lowest opening of any major release from Apple so far, but if it hits its current target, this would be the first weekend since last July that five films grossed over $10 million simultaneously.
