Box office: Final Destination scores the best R-rated horror debut of the decade

Also: The Weeknd's Hurry Up Tomorrow flopped, Friendship landed in the top ten despite playing in only 60 theatres, and The King of Kings moved up a notch on the all-time faith-based chart.

Box office: Final Destination scores the best R-rated horror debut of the decade

A few of this week’s highlights:

  • Final Destination Bloodlines had the 3rd-best opening of any horror movie this decade, and the best of any R-rated horror movie this decade.

  • A Minecraft Movie had the smallest drop of any film in the top ten, despite the fact that it is now available to watch at home as well.

  • Hurry Up Tomorrow, starring Canadian singer The Weeknd as a fictionalized version of himself, flopped right out of the gate.

  • Friendship, starring Tim Robinson and Paul Rudd, landed in 7th place despite playing in only 60 theatres. (Every other film in this week’s top ten is playing in at least 850 theatres; most of them are playing in thousands of theatres.)

  • The King of Kings fell out of the top ten in its sixth week but moved a notch higher on the all-time “faith-based” and Bible-movie charts.
