Box office: Dog Man tops a weaker-than-expected Super Bowl weekend
Also: Mufasa finally passed the total domestic gross of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and Becoming Led Zeppelin set a record for IMAX-exclusive music movies.

A few of this week’s highlights:
Dog Man, which had a better-than-expected opening last week, had the steepest second-weekend drop of any DreamWorks animated movie ever.
Heart Eyes and Love Hurts had weaker openings than expected.
Mufasa: The Lion King, which has been out-earning Sonic the Hedgehog 3 for several weeks, finally passed that film’s total domestic gross.
Becoming Led Zeppelin had the best opening of any IMAX-exclusive music movie.
Flight Risk had the smallest third weekend of any film directed by Mel Gibson, even before you take up to 32 years of inflation into account.
All films combined earned about $55 million this weekend, which makes this the weakest weekend of the year so far, but also (narrowly) the best Super Bowl weekend at the box office since the pre-Covid era. (The last Super Bowl weekend before the pandemic, in February 2020, generated $80.8 million in ticket sales.)
