Box office: Alien: Romulus is a late-summer success, albeit a qualified one
Dollar-wise, it had the 2nd-biggest opening in the 45-year-old franchise's history. But in terms of the number of tickets sold, it had one of the smaller openings.
A few of this week’s highlights:
Alien: Romulus had the 2nd-best opening in the Alien franchise’s history, but one of the weaker openings once you adjust for inflation.
Deadpool & Wolverine entered the all-time Top 20 in North America, and is now also the top-grossing R-rated film of all time worldwide.
The top animated movie was… Coraline, which got a 15th-anniversary re-release! But Despicable Me 4 and Inside Out 2 continued to have two of the best week-to-week holds, despite the “competition”.
